How do you change the input volume on Audacity?

Im using Audacity to record my voice, and the recording comes out extremely loud. Just talking will make the waves fill the whole box. Is there a way I can change this through the program? It is so much easier to handle if the recording is quieted down before I try to do anything else. How do you change the input volume on Audacity?
Why don't you try changing your mic input volume first? (Simply right click the volume icon on your desktop and then click recording devices)

Depending on your version there's a mic volume icon in the upper rightish area. Slide the slider down and you should be good. If you don't see it and don't have the version that has it in that location please tell me so I can assist. How do you change the input volume on Audacity?
at the top, to the right, there should be a sliding thing to adjust the microphone volume (it has a picture of a microphone).

also, after you record something, in the box next to the waves, the slider with the plus and minus signs changes the volume.
