Need help trying to shorten a 10 min song to only a couple of minutes using audacity?

I need some tips or tricks using audacity to shorten a 10 min song to only a couple of minutes. I have tried to use the tools on audacity to shorten the song but I am not sure if I am doing it the right way. I need these answers to be detailed so I understand what I am doing. Without knowing what you want the final result to be or how you're doing it there is no way to know if you're using the program correctly or not..

The quickest way to shorten a track:

Click, hold and drag to highlight the section of the track you want to keep.

Go to the Edit menu and click "Trim".

The selected section will now be isolated with blank track either side.

To position it at the start of the track:

Go to Project - click "align and move cursor" then click "align with zero".

Export and save to the format of your choice.



To be more precise with the start and end points of the selection hover the cursor over the ends of the selected section until a hand with a pointing finger appears.

The start or end points can be repositioned without having to re-select the whole section.
