How can I change songs from a SD card to mp3 format for a phone using audacity?

I have a Quickfire and i have several songs saved on a SD card and I need to change it to MP3 format so that way I can set these songs on my phone as ringtones. I was told that Audacity was a good program to use but I have no idea to do it. If theres a better program tell me and give me instructions on it.How can I change songs from a SD card to mp3 format for a phone using audacity?
To change any song to mp3 using Audacity do the followings.

1. Open the song in Audacity. You can drag and drop.

2. Now go to File%26gt;Export. Edit metadata if you want.

3. Click ok

4. Put file name and choose mp3 as save as type.



Now if you don't have mp3 encoder they ask you to download it. For audacity mp3 encoder is called LAME encoder.
