How can I get better quality for audacity?

I'm trying to record a song off of a movie (The Jacket) and when I do it sounds terrible in both audacity and windows media player (After I export it). I am not trying to illegally download or record the song I just can't find the title or anywhere to purchase it. I looked for the movie sound track and I can't seem to find that either. All I'm looking for right now is how to either improve the quality or a better program to record it.How can I get better quality for audacity?
Best guess - the recording level is too high..

The sound is distorted or "clipped".

The peaks (loudest parts) of the song must be within the limits of the waveform window.

Check the readout in the illustrations on this tutorial:

I would personally record the track louder with the peaks closer to the top and bottom borders.

For off-drive recording my input level is 0.2 using the slider to the left of the input selection list.

I can only offer this as a guide.

As with all audio recording trial and error is needed to get the best result.
I'll hazard a guess that you probably have digital clipping, which basically means you're input signal (what you're trying to record) is turned up too loud for the recording preamp. The end result is called clipping distortion. You can confirm this by watching the VU meter in Audacity while you're recording (the green volume level indicators at the top). If you get a red light on the '0' end it means you're signal is too loud and it's tripped the overload indicator (and you're getting clipping). Lower your input level and try again. You have to make sure that the input level doesn't trip the overload at all during the entire track, though, so you might have to play with the volume until you get it right.

If that isn't the problem then I'll be back to try again. How can I get better quality for audacity?
Audacity is the best. You might want to set its input to be the speakers (so it records verbatim what noises your computer is making). To do that you'd right-click on the volume icon in the task bar, click Recording Devices, right-click in the list, click Show Disabled Devices, right-click on Audio Output (or something like that) and click Set as Default Device.

Voila, you can now record what you hear through the speakers. Make sure to set another device as default to make the microphone record again. How can I get better quality for audacity?
you dont record off a movie.

you split the sound track from the video then trim the sound track.

NCH has a whole heap of free tools you can use to do this.
