Its only when I record I don't hear the instrumental with my voice.Ok i'm using Audacity to record over an instrumental but there is a problem?I use my rock band Microphone?
It's a multi-track recording app but the function needs to be user set..
Multi-track recording setup:
Version 1.2 via File menu, version 1.3 via Edit menu.
Preferences / Audio I/O tab and check:
"play other tracks while recording new one".
Import the first track then monitor it while recording subsequent track/s.
It's best to use headphones while doing this to prevent feedback.

How can I make audacity open properly?
I downloaded the program audacity onto my computer. Unfortunately, I use windows Vista, which is very buggy. I have been using it for years. The only catch is that I have to open the audacity program first, and then open the project I am working on. I can't just click on the icon from the program and open it. I've tried going under "open this program with..." but audacity is never listed as one of the programs that I can use.
How can I fix this? How can I make audacity open properly?
Not exactly sure what you're trying to fix but in order to fix the open with problem I would do the following.
Upon clicking the "open with" option, their should be a list of available applications as well as some sort of browse option. Click browse and look for either the application or the shortcut to the application. If the shortcut to Audacity is on your desktop, simply go to that directory and select Audacity as the default program for that file type.
Hope this helps!

How to make clear vocals in a big area using audacity?

Try hanging sheets and blankets all over the room to help deaden the echo. If it works, then great. If it somewhat deadens the echo then your on the right track and you can take it from there. Eric.

Way to receive and use only vocals from mp3 using audacity?
I have the free software Audacity, and I know how to take AWAY vocals from the mp3, however I would like to keep the vocals and nothing else instead. I need to change the pitch of the vocals, and as such don't want it to affect the instruments as well, so I was hoping to strip the vocals and change the pitch, then play it along side the vocal-less version. Is this possible?Way to receive and use only vocals from mp3 using audacity?
This is not possible with audacity. You would have to go find the acapella and the instrumental separately and then open them in audacity to edit them the way you want to. The vocal removal effect does not cut it only removes so therefore it will not save it so you can paste. There is another way to remove vocals as well but like I said before it will not give you the option to copy and paste.good makeup

You might have to turn up the volume on your pc and check to see it its recording from the mic.
ALso remember what ever noise comes out of your computer Audacity will record.
For example if you click and windows made a beep sound that will be recoreded along with music.

How do you record JUST your voice and not with the music while singing with it on Audacity with a karaoke mic?
I'm having trouble recording my singing because the microphone always seems to record the music i'm singing with more than my actual voice on Audacity. How do you get the microphone to record just your voice but the playing music at the same time?? Any help? How do you record JUST your voice and not with the music while singing with it on Audacity with a karaoke mic?
Use headphones to listen to the music. Then the microphone wont pick up the music. :)How do you record JUST your voice and not with the music while singing with it on Audacity with a karaoke mic?
It's tough to single out the audio, when recording from a mic. Typically in studio environments, or even in my own room, I try to keep the noise as low as possible - this will let me talk into the mic and get my voice and my voice only.
You can edit the audio after and try to extract your voice, or you can turn the volume low enough to not be picked up by the mic but so you can hear it.
If all else fails, try to get a pair of headphones/earphones and plug them into the speaker - or get a whole headset. You can hear the music well, and you won't get any sound bleeding into the mic.

How do I get Audacity or Virtualdub to do this?

Glad you figured it out.
I was going to say the issue with Audacity may be related to the LAME encoder settings. Feedback would make me think your audio input is also taking the mic in.
Or you could have noise from the video channel if you're loading that directly. I've never tried loading a video file directly into Audacity.

How do I use audacity to change the quality of my songs?
I need to do exactly what it says in the following link:
http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fa鈥?/a>
I'm using Audacity 1.3 beta, but i can download another version if its easier to explain. How do I use audacity to change the quality of my songs?
To do the comparison test as described in the article you will need the Lame codec.
http://lame.sourceforge.net/
Audacity 1.3 is fine.
Note it is difficult to detect a difference unless doing a direct A-B comparison. That is switching from the original to the compressed track and back again while both are playing.
The quality of the speaker system is also critical.
Unless you're using good quality headphones or are plugged through a good stereo system the exercise will be fruitless.
The lowest compression ratio is 320 kbps. This removes the least amount of audio information from the file and results in the best mp3 quality. 128 kbps is generally accepted as the best compromise between file size and quality.
There is one error in the text which states that 70 minutes is the industry standard for the length of a CD.
This is incorrect.
74 minutes was chosen as this is the playing time of the longest orchestral work.
Until technology caught up blank CDs were only available as 650 Mb / 74 minute. Blank CDs are now available as 700 Mb / 80 minute.
The compact disk was originally developed for the archival storage of data until, as with tape and vinyl, somebody thought "We can use this for music" so compromises had to be reached for bitrate and capacity.
The playing time measured in minutes only applies to files in wav format. How do I use audacity to change the quality of my songs?

Does Audacity have built in instrument sounds?

I agree with Bird there are regular programs that are installed on your pc that you can use for free that sound better like sound recorder.

How do I listen to what I am transferring (Cassette to CD) on Audacity?

Thank you!How do I listen to what I am transferring (Cassette to CD) on Audacity?
Your cassette player is going into the line in on your computer (at least it should be) so it should play through your computers speakers if you have selected line in as the source. This approach has nothing to do with Audacity.
To transfer tapes to CDs you need to plug a 3.5mm head phone jack that is male on both ends (you can get this at radio shack for 3 or 5 bucks) from your tape players headphone jack into the mic or line in jack on your computer, (they are usually pink/red and blue), then hit record on audacity and then play on the tape player. Go to preferences under the edit menu in Audacity and under recording in the preferences window click software play through if you want to be able to hear what you are recording, but you don't have to if you dont want to.How do I listen to what I am transferring (Cassette to CD) on Audacity?

I need to edit a sound to make it sound muffled, as if it's coming from through a wall or some headphones. Is there a tool I can use on audacity for this? I've been playing around with it for a while but nothing has worked.

I would download the free trial for WavePad.
http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.ht鈥?/a>
in the special effects menu it has something called "telephone effect" which muffles sounds. You might also be able put a bass boost on to emphasise the bass as if the sound is coming from headphones.
Another thing I think you'll find useful is the equaliser tool. Audacity has this but with Wavepad you can preview it as you edit which is very useful. So you can keep adjusting it as it plays, and then just cancel if you change you mind.

Audacity IS NOT for recording and mixing music. Where does this idea come from? It's a sound recorder and editor, and is in no way optimized for music production. They don't advertise it as such either. They call it what it is... a sound editor!
Just browse their website and show me where they recommend using it to record, edit, and mix music: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
It lacks a majority of the features you find in music recording applications, and that's fine, because that's not what it was designed to be.
Get yourself a real DAW. If you need something free, try Ardour.

How do you make singing sound, better on Audacity? First good answer gets best answer!!!?
It's quite hard to explain. Uhm, you know how Fergie's not really a great singer? But she sounds good on the radio. Well how do you fix the voice audio, if there is a way on Audacity? Please help! First good answer gets best answer!
Thanks in advance,
JessHow do you make singing sound, better on Audacity? First good answer gets best answer!!!?
Well, if you are using Audacity, you are either an experienced user or a beginner.
If you are experienced, you probably have a sound booth, a proper microphone setup and know what you are doing, so I'm going to hazard a guess that you wouldn't ask this question.
On the other hand, Audacity is typically the first program people use to record music and singing. It's not all that great for that, but it works.
The obstacle though is that you need to know what you are doing. Audacity does little more than simply record the sound that it is fed.
You will need to know how to work your equipment to get the results you want.
Fergie sounds good (really?) because she has been recorded by professionals. First, they get the raw sound by recording in an acoustically neutral studio. Sometimes there is a non acoustically neutral environment used for some singers, but I doubt someone as 'pulp music' as Fergie would do that.
Then they will usually apply some effects to fill out her sound. Things like reverb, vibrato and such can really add some meat. Another thing that can really help fill out sound is simply by splitting the vocals equally to stereo. It's very common in pro level recordings to have vocals 'center' (both channels), and instruments split left and right in one channel only.
One way you can check to see if this has been done is to take one channel and reverse its phase (not 100% sure if Audacity can do that since I only used it for 3 days). You will notice that the vocals almost completely vanish, but the instruments remain. This is because the vocals are identical on both channels, so cancel each other out, but the instruments are different, so it doesn't matter what phase they are in. You can still hear them clearly.
Mostly though, it all begins with a good microphone, a quiet environment and controlling the ambient acoustics so you get a clean recording.
You should look at some other recording programs for more power.
Try Acoustica Mixcraft. It's pretty cheap and very popular. There are some nice effects you can add.
If you add too many effects or add them too strong, you won't sound good, but you might sound like some professional singers. That's just because they don't sound good, they just sell albums.
Check out Kina Grannis for some lovely low processing female vocals. I believe she also has a few processed songs that you can check out as well. Jason Mraz is another good one to check out for learning about singing and effects because a lot of his stuff has very little processing, but he has a few 'tuned for radio' songs that are great to learn from by comparing.

heh.
wtf is up with the whole 'pitch correction' thing. I don't think that is mentioned anywhere in the question. If you can't get the pitch right, it's not that you can't sing well, it's that you can't sing. yeesh.
My friend had to do a whole paper on this in one of my music technology classes last year. First of all, you cannot really correct pitches on Audacity and there is a reason why Audacity is a free program.
First of all, there is a program called Auto-tune that is used frequently in bettering the sounds of radio recording artists, such as Fergie and too many artists to name. It practically fixes notes to be completely in tune, without the artists to even try. Also, if you want, it can even give off an unnatural effect that sounds like echoed vibrato. The most common person to use this "effect" was Cher in her song "believe".
This program is used a lot to have the musicians appear to possess perfect pitch, when frankly, they do not. There is not one professional recording artists like Fergie, Britney Spears, Christa Angulara, Katy Perry, Kanya West, Lil Wayne, Garth Brooks, Chris Brown Rascal Flatts, Akon, Jay-Z, Faith Hill, Death Cab for Cutie, etc There is just too many to name. Every single "popular" artist uses it on records.

I think they edit the voice in a studio before it gets marketed to radio stations and cds and such, so there wouldn't really be a way to change that I don't think

A list should appear when you click on the arrow.
If it doesn't the only thing I can suggest is to re-install it.
To record from the drive select either "stereo mix" or "what you hear" - depends on the sound card.
You may need to reduce the recording level so the music is not distorted.
The waveform display should look like the ones in this tutorial.

Download Lame_enc.dll and save it into the Audacity program folder or just somewhere in program files. Then when it asks you to find 'lame' locate it and that should be fine.

Is there a way I can apply effects to a certain instrument in an MP3 file using Audacity?
When I was messing around in Audacity the other day, I was mesmerized by the effects I could put on an MP3. But there was one problem: I could only apply the effect to either the left or right stereo channel, or both. I couldn't apply the effect to just the guitar or just the bass. Is it possible to do this in Audacity, or do I need a much more powerful audio editor? Is there a way I can apply effects to a certain instrument in an MP3 file using Audacity?

besides audacity, which you mentioned, you can use Reaper, Reaper is an outstanding program. It is free for 30 days, which gives you plenty of time to record. Give it a try. On top of being able to record, you'll have access to close to a 70 fx plug-ins, such as guitar amps, compressors, real time equalizers, pitch adjusting fx. Need I say more? Have fun

Why does my song sound like a buzz on Audacity?
I am trying to combine tracks for a slideshow on Audacity. I imported my three songs from itunes, but when I tried to listen to them on Audacity, it just sounded like a zip or buzz and lasted less than a second. I tried using the change speed and tempo effects, but It just made the buzz longer. Does anyone know how I can fix it and make my song sound like a song? Why does my song sound like a buzz on Audacity?
This usually happens when the imported tracks are the wrong format.
Audacity will only accept files in wav, mp3, Ogg or aiff format.
If your files are not one of these they will need to be converted.
Without knowing your file type I can only suggest you Google for a converter e.g: "??? to wav converter"
I don't have iTunes so I can't be sure of the file type. It may or may not be catered for in this app from Koyote Soft.

How do I get music onto Audacity?
O.K. I went to Audacity and import audio. I went to windows media player but it just brought up info about it like certain files. Not the music. How do i get the music? Also do realplayer or itunes work better with this program because I have them also. How do I get music onto Audacity?
When you click import audio, I think they are talking about one sound file at a time. Highlighting more than one may just work. But try one file first.
If you want music from your Windows Media Player, you need to go where those files are stored and click the sound file itself.
If it's not a format that Audacity handles, it'll tell you. Then just convert it to one that it does handle.
Good Luck

In Audacity, how do you make Alvin and the Chipmunk voices WITHOUT adjusting the original beat of the song?
I know how to make Alvin and the Chipmunk voices but I can't find out how to do so without changing the beat. When I adjust it, the beat in the background sounds high just like their voices and I want that to stay the same as the original. For example, listen to Low by Flo Rida and you can easily distinguish the beat between the song. Please if anyone knows how to do this on Audacity, please tell me. It would be much appreciated. Thanks. In Audacity, how do you make Alvin and the Chipmunk voices WITHOUT adjusting the original beat of the song?

You'd have to have the vocals and the instrumentals on different tracks. The chipmunks voices are done by the singers singing the song slowly and then they speed it up to make their voices high. They don't use a pitch change. You could do a pitch change and it would probably work but that will change the pitch of everything else too unless they are on separate tracks.

Without knowing what you want the final result to be or how you're doing it there is no way to know if you're using the program correctly or not..
The quickest way to shorten a track:
Click, hold and drag to highlight the section of the track you want to keep.
Go to the Edit menu and click "Trim".
The selected section will now be isolated with blank track either side.
To position it at the start of the track:
Go to Project - click "align and move cursor" then click "align with zero".
Export and save to the format of your choice.
To be more precise with the start and end points of the selection hover the cursor over the ends of the selected section until a hand with a pointing finger appears.
The start or end points can be repositioned without having to re-select the whole section.

I do just the voices using audacity ind it sound pretty good. it's probably because you were using the pitch change thing. get the beta version of it from the site and go to sliding time/pitch shift scale and put in -50 for both initial and end tempo change then after it's done (it'll take a while) speed it up 100. do that on the acapella and make sre you have the instrumental on another track and line them up and there you go. =)

How do I remove a singer's voice from a song and let the music only play using audacity?
I've got a copy of audacity and I want to remove the singer's voice and let the music only play. Possibly save it to disc after. How do I do that? Thanks. How do I remove a singer's voice from a song and let the music only play using audacity?
The only way to fully remove a vocal is with the original multi-track studio recording using the program it was created with.
The vocal can be removed with Audacity with varying degrees of success if the track complies with certain conditions. The drums and bass could also be affected.
This is possible only for certain stereo tracks. When the vocals are exactly the same on both stereo channels, you can remove them by “subtracting” one channel from the other. This works for many studio recordings, where the vocal track is mixed exactly in the center.
To do this in Audacity 1.2.6:
1. Import your stereo file into Audacity.
2. Open the track menu (click the arrow next to the track title), and choose “Split Stereo Track.”
3. Select the lower track (the right channel) by clicking it in the area around the mute/solo buttons.
4. Choose “Invert” from the Effects menu.
5. Using the track menus, change each track to “Mono.”
Press the Play button to hear the results. If you are lucky, the voice will be gone but most of the other instruments will be unaffected, just like a karaoke track. You can use the Export commands in the File menu to save the results.
Audacity 1.3.7 beta.
Open the song in the program
Click, hold and drag to highlight the whole song then select "vocal remover" from the effects menu.
Export and save from the file menu.

I don't know what you are talking about with the ipods and stuff but basically mp3 is a kind of language that computers use for music. Is Audacity the software I need for this problem?
I'm trying to write a database to keep track of my music collection and make it easier to search (I'm a theatre sound technician and need to keep technical details of the pieces as well as the usual) - if I transfer something to mp3 and import it into Audacity will it be able to give the bpm?
If not, is there a programme that does? (It's either that or I sit there with several thousand tracks and a metronome...)
Thanks! Is Audacity the software I need for this problem?
try PCDJ VJ i use it for discos it gives you time lapse / beat per min / length of track / speed / Hope that helps you
Audacity's primary function is to edit audio tracks. You can open a file in a variety of formats and save to MP3. In this respect, it will allow you to convert media to MP3.
It does not have a native ability to automatically detect BPM.
Tedious it may be, tap counting is probably the most accurate. heres the website I use when I need a BPM:

I've used PCDJ for this as well, and it does a reasonable job. It's never spot on but 卤1 bpm so pretty accurate. Is Audacity the software I need for this problem?

How Do I Separate Vocals From Instruments Using Audacity?
I am in a singing class and need to use just the instruments so i can sing along with the song, but have very little idea how to use Audacity.
So how do i separate the vocals from the instruments using Audacity? How Do I Separate Vocals From Instruments Using Audacity?
Full removal (rather than separation) is hardly ever achieved with any vocal removal software..
They all use the same method although some claim to be better than others.
It works better on some tracks than others and depends on how it was mixed in the studio.
The only fully effective way is with the original multi-tack studio recording.

How do I save an audacity recording as a file?
I have tried downloading Lame, but audacity specifically says that it needs lame_enc.dll or something. Can someone give me good instructions on what I have to do, and also a link if I need to download anything? Thank you.How do I save an audacity recording as a file?
It's handy to put that "lame" file in with the Audacity program file, then tell Audacity to look for it there:
Copy the file%26gt; My computer%26gt; 'c' drive%26gt; Programs%26gt; Audacity%26gt; paste:
Then:
Audacity%26gt; Edit%26gt; Preferences%26gt; File formats%26gt; Find library%26gt; Yes%26gt; (browse to the Audacity file and select the lame file)%26gt; OK out
After you've finished your recording %26amp; editing, Edit%26gt; Selection%26gt; All%26gt; go back to "File"%26gt; Export selection as (select file type %26amp; destination).

How do I record music playing on my computer using audacity?
I heard if your playing music on another program or website on your computer audacity can record it, how?How do I record music playing on my computer using audacity?
Audacity may have an option to record from your computer. I've recently hit upon something like this.
First, what operating system are you using?
If you're using xp, i can't offer specific help since I use vista (unfortunately :P)
Assuming you have an xp, try selecting the Stereo Mix recording device, go to edit, preferences, recording, click the drop down menu for recording devices and use Stereo Mix, sometimes Wave out i think. If you don't see Stereo Mix (like in vista) It is probably disabled.
Below is an explanation for enabling Stereo Mix in Vista, Xp may not be that different.
Go to sound on your control panel.
Click the recording tab
Stereo mix is disabled at default (blame microsoft)
Right click anywhere on that menu.
Select Show disabled devices, if not already checked.
Stereo mix or Wave out should appear. (As a computer chip like icon in my comp)
Now restart audacity and select Stereo Mix.
Start recording and it SHOULD record your computer sounds. Cross your fingers :P
PS, check the recording volume if you can't hear anything at first. In vista, right click on the icon for Stereo Mix and select properties, Set recording volume to 100
Hope this helps

I downloaded Audacity to edited cuss words out of the songs I have but now I can't figure out how to get them on to a cd or mp3 player. Can anyone tell me how?How to get edited Audacity songs onto a cd or mp3?
There are a number of versions of the excellent program Audacity.
Generally, you can File/Export to WAV or MP3 (depending on what your CD player can play). You will then need to copy the resulting file(s) onto a blank or re-writable CD with space on it.
Depending on which version of Windows you have and/or media player you should be able to write the un-cuss'd files to the CD - don't forget to "finish" the CD before you'll be able to put into your CD player.eyeliner

Why do I have feedback from my mic built in on my laptop when recording in Audacity?

Very basic Audacity starter guide.
(1) Because of patent restrictions Lame needs to be downloaded and installed separately to save tracks in mp3 format.
(2) Audacity will only accept and play files in wav, mp3, Ogg and aiff format apart from it's own native .aup format.
A short noise for about one second indicates an incorrect file format.
(3) For any effects to be active a part or all of the track needs to be highlighted.
Left click on a blank part of the panel to the left of the waveform or use ctrl+a to highlight the whole track or left click, hold and drag to highlight a selected portion of it.
(4) The recording input is selected from a drop down list at the top right of the program.
For Vista users if "stereo mix" or "what you hear" is not active on the input list:
Vista: Click Start%26gt; Control Panel. Select Manage Audio Devices in the Sound Section.
Click the Recording Tab and if the Stereo Mix Option is missing right-click on an empty part of the window and left-click on Show Disabled Devices. Right-click on the icon and select Enable. This will enable recording of sound coming through your speakers.
(5) Multi-track recording setup:
Version 1.2 via File menu, version 1.3 via Edit menu.
Preferences / Audio I/O tab and check:
"play other tracks while recording new one".

How do I remix songs & remove the lyrics but retain the tune using Audacity?
So I downloaded this Audacity software, I want to remix songs using it. How can I remix?
I also want to remove the words of a certain song using Audacity, but the tune will retain, how do I do that? How do I remix songs %26amp; remove the lyrics but retain the tune using Audacity?
Check the help files - it's all there..
This is possible only for certain stereo tracks. When the vocals are exactly the same on both stereo channels, you can remove them by “subtracting” one channel from the other. This works for many studio recordings, where the vocal track is mixed exactly in the center. Be aware that bass and drums are usually panned to the center and can be removed or reduced also. Depending on how the track was mixed the vocal may only be reduced, not fully removed.
To do this in Audacity 1.2:

I have an audio track I recorded on audacity, and I want to make it a soundtrack on windows movie maker, but it doesn't recognize the file as a soundtrack. It does recognize mp3s, so how do I convert it to that or something else it will recognize? How do I convert audacity to an mp3?
Read the audacity site - there's a link to Lame. How do I convert audacity to an mp3?
You would need the mp3 (Lame) encoder at least then Export the file as mp3. Audacity may have encoder built in already.

How should I burn a CD using audacity?
How should I burn the songs I recorded on a CD using audacity? I can't find any burn button or anything.
No,answers saying "don't use audacity or use something else" or other answers that will not even help. How should I burn a CD using audacity?
Unfortunately, you can't use Audacity to burn songs - it just doesn't have that function built in. Once you've recorded and edited the tracks in Audacity, you should Export them as an uncompressed audio file - usually a WAV file - don't use the "Save" option. Then use a program like Windows Media Player or iTunes to burn the songs to the CD.

Whats the difference between Audacity and Cubase?
Audacity is free.
Cubase and other recording tools are expensive.
Why exactly is this (educated answers only please)Whats the difference between Audacity and Cubase?
Cubase is bad?
Do you work for a competing DAW company or something?
Audacity is aimed more at audio editing with the ability to do multi channel audio mixing and some pitch bend/time warp features along with various plugins, one of which allows audacity to use the commonly used VST audio plugin format.
Audacity is fine if you just want to process audio, mix it together, make mashups etc.
Cubase has been on the go for years, starting off as a midi sequencer then branching out into an audio sequencer as well.
The deal is, cubase is an infinitly more powerful program, aimed at professionals who want a professional sound with as many tools at their disposal as possible. audacity is a relatively capable program in its own right, and considering its free, is a must have for people starting out in the world of sound/music production.
There's really no need to buy cubase unless you have a good understanding of music tech and are serious about getting the best from your productions.
I'd try audacity and if/when you find it limiting, look into considering cubase.Whats the difference between Audacity and Cubase?

I just downloaded Audacity and I'm trying to record an audio track for the first time but everything I say has an echo effect to it. How do I turn this option off?How do I take off the echo effect on Audacity?
The only way I can replicate this is by activating "software playthrough" on the preferences setup.
Go to File / Preferences / Audio I/O tab and make sure there is no tick alongside "software playthrough". Just click to un-check it if ticked.
Why it's there I don't know. I've never found a use for it.
Hope that helps.
If you want to record multiple tracks just check the "play other tracks while recording new one" box.
It's best to use headphones to monitor the previous tracks while recording the new one.

How to record rap song over a beat using Audacity?
Please tell me if you know how to. My friends have a better program but I'd like to use Audacity at my house sometimes. Please helpHow to record rap song over a beat using Audacity?
Sorry, no one uses audacity but this questions been sittin around so I'mma take a shot. So hold on. So, if you have a mic running through an interface to your cpu, you must select an input. Some where you'll have to create a track to record into. Then select the input so than your mic signal is selected. Then you most likely have to put it into "record ready" or "arm" the track. At this point you should be able to hear your voice through the microphone. If you can, you have an issue with the "monitoring" setup. Somewhere in the program you'll have to change it from something like, "signal monitoring" to "INPUT MONITORING". Then you should definitely hear yourself. If all else fails, just go to the audacity website, find the forums that all the audacity users chat on, and someone will be more than happy to help you. Then come back here and give me the best answer. Peace.

How to Use Audacity to make my voice movie trailer material?
I want step by step instruction on how to change my voice to sound movie trailer material in Audacity. and I need it ASAP. My voice is a little high pitched and when i try to lower the pitch it just sounds weird. Please Help. Thanks in advance. And if theres a way to sound like Morgan Freeman please tell me how to to that to. And if Im using the wrong software for this, show me a better one thats free. Thanks! How to Use Audacity to make my voice movie trailer material?
First, you're going to have to go into the bathroom or stand in the shower (good sound qualities) and practice sounding like Morgan Freeman. Lower the register of your voice. Listen to how Morgan Freeman says things. Does he clip his words (cut them off sharply at the end)? Does he slur certain groups of letters? Etc. At least 90% of getting the quality of someone else's voice is training what nature gave you, not expecting miracles from software.
My cousin-in-law was in radio and did voice-over and he naturally speaks very precisely and very clearly. Practice reading out loud. If it feels like your mouth and tongue are doing weird things (moving around too much), you're doing it right;-) Note: while well-read script sounds good on film, TV and radio, it's difficult to listen to someone in person who speaks precisely because they don't slur the letters when they speak. Most of us would say: "ar ya goin' t'thu stor?" but they'll say it perfectly, pronouncing what should be pronounced.
Once you get close to Freeman's tonal qualities, use Audacity to tighten it up. Use the pitch and speed plugin in the Effects menu. When you lower the pitch too much, it makes time changes to the audio so you need a plugin that will also allow you to increase the speed as you lower the pitch.psoriasis treatment

As far as I'm aware iTunes songs are in either aac or m4a format.
Audacity does not support these file types only wav, mp3 or ogg besides it's own multi track format aud.
You will need to convert them.
This app from Koyote Soft will convert aac or m4a to the format of your choice.
I loaded a wrong format song once and if memory serves correct your result is about what I got.

Just in case I'm wrong about the file type you have just Google for a file converter: "freeware ??? to mp3 converter" Don't forget the exclamation marks.

How do I edit a recording of me singing to make it sound professional with Audacity?
So I just recorded a song with me singing to a original song. So I listened to it and it sounded "okay" but I want to edit my voice to make it sound a little more professional.
How can I do this with Audacity? How do I edit a recording of me singing to make it sound professional with Audacity?
There is good, better and best.
With a lot of the freeware (free software), your limited to what you can do as far as effects, levels, add-ons and modules. It will depend on how much you want to spend.
One way to improve the sound without spending a whole lot would be at the Microphone level. Depending on the Mic you have, you may want to look into a pop filter. A pop filter looks like someone put a pantyhose on a small hoop. It's on a gooseneck and goes between you and the Microphone. You could try to make one yourself or pick one up for about 10 to 15 dollars.
Another way to improve your sound is to make sure the cables your using are shielded so your recording comes back clean (no electronic humming noise).
After all that, you'll want to look into getting a multi-track recording software, there are several good ones out there and of course pricing at a wide range as well. In order to suggest what type of software, I'll need to know what type of computer your using and what type of OS you have.
First and foremost, you have got to click that effects tab! Find the "amplifier" plugin and click that. That alone will get your voice at a nice, modern, sound level.
Audacity has the "freeverb/gverb" plugin which, applied in a small amount, makes your voice have a bit more spacial depth to it.
One really cool thing you can do is record yourself singing an octave lower than your previous recording and combine that with the first, which can sound REALLY cool (it works for me!).
You can also open the "equalization" plugin and turn the highs and lows down, just leaving the mids, to get that "am radio/megaphone" sound

A file playing superfast in a few seconds indicates it is the wrong file format and will need to be converted to mp3 to be usable.
I don't have iTunes so I can't recommend a specific converter.
Try this free one from Koyote Soft first. If it's not suitable Google for a "free ??? to mp3 converter"

Are they in Mp3 format? If so:
This plug-in will extend the range of Audacity to work with Mp3 files:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/lame/la…
It's handy to put all "add-on" files in the Audacity program file, then tell Audacity to look for it there, as needed.
Download the file%26gt; scan with your anti-virus%26gt; "Copy" the file%26gt; My computer%26gt; 'c' drive%26gt; Programs%26gt; Audacity%26gt; paste:
Then:
Audacity%26gt; Edit%26gt; Preferences%26gt; File formats%26gt; Find library%26gt; Yes%26gt; (browse to the Audacity file and select the desired file)%26gt; OK out
In the default window:
Select your music/sound track%26gt; Edit%26gt; Select%26gt; All;
Then, just above the graphic spectrogram is a small green arrow next to a slider bar ( - and +) %26gt; move slider left. Tick the small arrow to play.
Alternate:
Edit%26gt; Select%26gt; All;
Effect%26gt; Change speed%26gt; (Gives a window with numerical value of how much speed to apply, which you should note. Redo as you want for more (+) or less (-).)
When satisfactory results are obtained, and with "Edit%26gt; Select%26gt; All" still selected, go to File%26gt; Export selected%26gt; send to your destination folder.

if you have win xp u can use the movie maker and edit songs but if uve already upgraded to vista or win 7 i dont think u can use movie maker to edit songs as they work only for videos. u can always use the voice recorder that comes with windows to edit songs but files u save will be in .wmv format although u can convert it later ;)

I would appreciate it.How to turn the echo effect off in Audacity?
Do you have your speakers on when recording and is it playing the sound as you record? That's probably what's going on.
The effects menu will be grayed out as long as you don't have a recording selected in the main window. After you record something hit Ctrl+A to select all, then you should be able to apply effects.eye shadow

How do you use a keyboard with Audacity?
I just purchased a Yamaha PSR-E413 and i have it plugged into the my home computer (not a mac) and im trying to record using audacity. Where do i start? How do you use a keyboard with Audacity?
Assuming you're talking about recording MIDI - Audacity has no MIDI support or features (apart from displaying a MIDI file).
You need to be looking at a more fully-featured program, maybe even a full DAW (digital audio workstation).
Take a look at Reaper, which is very reasonably priced and has plenty of features comparable to much more expensive DAWs...

If you find Reaper limiting and you can spend a bit more, there's plenty of choice!
Sonar
Cubase
Ableton

FL Studio
Pro Tools (eww)

It as of yet can not do anything except display a midi file.
