I've edited audio with Audacity and saved it as mp3, but what program opens it. I'm getting confused because Wikipedia explains its a mpeg-layer3 along with saying its an audio file.
Is an mp3 player hardware device like an ipod or something. With what program do i open a mp3 audio file saved by Audacity?
THe easiest way is to download a free copy of Audacity from this location:

However, as others have said if its a straight forward MP3 format any player that plays mp3's will play it.
Yes, you should be able to play the file in iTunes, Windows Media Player, or move it to any MP3 player. With what program do i open a mp3 audio file saved by Audacity?
mpg123, realplayer, xmms, etc...With what program do i open a mp3 audio file saved by Audacity?
windows media player. It should already be installed on your computer but if not, you can download it for free from the microsoft website. Most programs that you use to play music will play mp3s. I don't know what you are talking about with the ipods and stuff but basically mp3 is a kind of language that computers use for music. Ipods speak only 1 kind of language but programs like windows media player speak many languages.
