Your cassette player is going into the line in on your computer (at least it should be) so it should play through your computers speakers if you have selected line in as the source. This approach has nothing to do with Audacity.
To transfer tapes to CDs you need to plug a 3.5mm head phone jack that is male on both ends (you can get this at radio shack for 3 or 5 bucks) from your tape players headphone jack into the mic or line in jack on your computer, (they are usually pink/red and blue), then hit record on audacity and then play on the tape player. Go to preferences under the edit menu in Audacity and under recording in the preferences window click software play through if you want to be able to hear what you are recording, but you don't have to if you dont want to.How do I listen to what I am transferring (Cassette to CD) on Audacity?

First you have to download the LAME mp3 encoder for audacity, then make the file into an mp3.



Then burn it onto a cd like any other file.

You have to save whatever you were working on in Audacity. Then simply use your burn software to make your CD. If you are into recording and editing I highly recommend Sony Sound Forge w/ CD Arcitech.

How do you get the microphone to work on Audacity?

I just downloaded Audacity today and for some reason it won't allow me to record. I downloaded the right version (I have vista) but it keeps saying:



"Error while opening sound device. Please input the device settings and project the sample rate."



I have no idea what is wrong because I can record fine with Windows Sound Recorder.

go to edit-%26gt;preferences. on "audio i/o" tab, select the playback and recording device. if you have many options, just try each one of them.



go to "quality" tab, select 44100 for "default sample rate"



the problem should be the audio i/o selection.
