How to use Audacity to make a file longer?
I am using Audacity to take a downloaded WMA file and listen to it to transcribe what is being said. I wanted to take the track and stretch it out, so that way it is slower, and I don't miss any of the words being said. How do I stretch the track and make a one hour long speech go for two hours?|||Audacity does not to my knowledge play wma files..
It's own aup format and wav, mp3, Ogg and aiff being the only formats it supports.
You'll need to convert your wma file to mp3 to be able to use it.
Select the whole track then change speed from the effect menu.
Halving the speed will make the speech unintelligible.
The words themselves are stretched in time and slowed down.
The only way to make a one hour speech last for two hours is to slow it down.
A speed reduction of 10 to 15% should be enough.

How do i start a music at 30sec using audacity?
I put 2 songs together w/ audacity, but i wanna know how can i put one of them starting at 30sec ?|||There is a time-line. Just drag one of the songs forward (after you select it).|||Ok, on audacity, you need to record the first song that you are using, then when its done recording press stop, for the second song click on the timeline of the song at 30 seconds, and start recording that second song,it automatically starts on a different track, so this will work (I experimented with audacity to figure out your question and it worked). By the way, you must click stop recording for the first song dont pause or it wont work, and click record to start recording at 30 seconds. It will work! Hope this helped.

When using Audacity, is there a way to get an audio sample to the same volume from start to end?
I'm a home recording artist and I use Audacity to record my songs.
I sing some parts low (which end up really quiet) and I sing some parts high (which end up really loud). Is there any way to get one audio sample the same exact volume all the way through?
Sorry if that's confusing. LOL!|||I don't use Audacity but use MediaMonkey instead. I mention it because I think it's free, and under the "Tools" menu there's a choice to "level track volume" which equalizes the volume or greatly narrows the range of volume in a track, song or mix. It's also handy 'cause it analyzes your entire collection for volume, etc, and will create mix cd's that don't go from too quiet on some songs to too loud for others. Hope this is a bit helpful.|||Not sure about this but try marking an area and then choosing effect %26gt; leveler

We did a broadcast of a local sporting event and recorded it using audacity. How do i alter the play speed on audacity?
I have imported a song into audacity but it speeds it up so its over in a second. A track that should go on for several minutes only fills one screen. Any ideas?|||go to Effect %26gt; Change Pitch, Change Speed, or Change Tempo.
Tempo / Pitch / Speed
Pitch is related to frequency. Pitch is the high or low tone we hear in any piece. By decreasing the time between crests, one can increase the frequency and, therefore, the pitch. Doing so increases the speed since the time between crests is reduced. However, in Audacity, changing the pitch will not affect the speed of the piece since Audacity readjusts each track to maintain the original speed; similarly, one can increase the pace of the song in Audacity without noticeably changing the pitch using the Change Tempoeffect. However, if you do wish to change the speed and pitch, perhaps to simulate a record winding down, you can use Audacity's Change Speed effect, which will affect both tempo and pitch. Both Speed and Tempo changes will affect the overall length of your piece.
To apply any of these effects, select the track or portion of the track you want the filter applied to, then go to Effect %26gt; Change Pitch, Change Speed, or Change Tempo. From there, you will be given many advanced options, but the most important one is the percent change field. Inputting a percentage greater than zero will speed up or pitch up your track while a negative number will do the opposite.

How do you remove noise or hiss from audacity?
I have a creative response that I made, wrote the lyrics myself and played the guitar. However, the instrument can barely be heard because of the computer noise in the background. My computer has been making rough sounds, but I'm trying to get the instruments heard. How do youremove the noise? I've tried in Audacity but all it does is decrease the volume, once you increase it you hear it again.|||You can use Noise Removal in the Effects menu but you need a little section of the audio where there is only noise for a sample. Here is a video I made for someone who needed to remove car noise from a conversation between people in the car. (Excuse the quality. This was my first tutorial - and I made it a 6 am.)
The noise sample you select can be very small. I selected a large area so it could be seen on the video.

The trick to removing noise without destroying the sounds you want to hear is to be patient and not expect to remove the noise the first time. Your audio card, may be lots of noise, or its how you are mixing things.
On thing you can try is recording things at a louder level, and see if maybe you can bury some of that noise under the instruments.

How to use Audacity to record off of web pages?
I have Windows 7. The only main reason I want Audacity and only Audacity is for the face that it can change the pitch of the song. I'm quite new to using this program so I really do not know. How do you use Audacity to record audio off of web pages such as youtube?
I previously have used Audacity (with Vista) to record audio tracks off of sites such as youtube. Somehow the settings have changed and instead of just hitting record and having anything that flowed out of my speakers recorded, Audacity says "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate."

Check first if the input settings are the same on the list. Top right "stereo mix" or "what you hear" and there is no problem with your sound card.
You could try re-installing the program which should re-set the settings back to default.
Or. Check the settings yourself.

How do I use Audacity to change vocal levels of an a capella song?
I have an a capella version of a song, and I'm trying to use Audacity to lower the volume of only the lead vocal, so that I can hear everything underneath. I've tried the vocal eraser, but since it's an a capella, it erases everything and I get silence.

How to mix same two songs with audacity?
I want to mix two of the same song by two different artists with audacity. I know how to mix them but the audios are off by like half a second. I've tried trimming them and starting them at different times but it's not working. Is there another thing on audacity that can get them to flow correctly? Thanks.|||"dew..." makes a good point, but there may be a way around that with a little work.
With spectrograms aligned one under the other, the rhythm or tempo can be noticed by the peaks and/or valleys; for the tract that's running slow, note the discrepancy, then highlight the entire slow track%26gt; Effect%26gt; Change Speed (or tempo)%26gt; modify the speed to match the noted discrepancy (default is 0, - makes it slower so move slider right)%26gt; OK (wait for the changes to become effective). This may take a bit of tweaking to have the audio behave like you want.
When finished, export the entire kaboodle to a folder of your choice, making sure to save the 'project' itself, as these would be the settings and so on for Audacity, (there are two things to 'save' in essence)...in case you need to come back and tweak it later.|||Unless the two artist are using the exact same musical track, the odds are that they are not going to be in perfect synch with each other. One may be slightly faster than the other in how they sing the song, or they may repeat different parts of the songs at different places. It is very very unlikely that two artist using different musical tracks will match each other. So even if you could get the first few notes to match perfectly, it is unlikely that they would stay in perfect synch.
If you really want to match the two, you are probably going have to go measure by measure through the music and slightly adjust one of the two tracks every three or four beats to keep it in synch with the other track. Major undertaking, and questionable as to how the final results will sound. It will probably make the music track in the adjusted track very "jumpy".
I am not aware of any way to use Audicity (or any other program like that) to get two different tracks like that to synch,

How to add audacity mp3 file to a stop motion video with framebyframe?
I made a stopmotion with framebyframe, yes it's for mac. I was wondering how to add the audacity mp3 file to it so it will stream together and make it look like my video is talking. Like its playdough people and the mouths move. I also need to know how to make the timing perfect because counting and talking into the mike doesn't work. HELP!|||If you have your animation and sound already done, throw them together in a video editing program like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, or Sony Vegas. If you don't have any of those and don't know how to get them, just use Windows Movie Maker.
But usually what's done is your audio is recorded first, then broken down to see how long each sound takes so you can then animate to that timing. That way when you put the sound and the video together afterwards, everything is in sync.
If you need any more help or info, let me know.

How can I get Audacity to correctly work on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop?
I have downloaded Audacity onto my laptop - but I can't find the correct input recording microphone thingy that I need to record internal sounds being issued from my laptop. Now, I have been told that Windows Vista is the source of the problem - but I just wanted to double check because I really need audacity to work! Any suggestions or advice would be great! Thanks.|||Hi. I have used Audacity for years but always with an input to get an audio file. This is true for both laptops and desktops. Using Audacity to record line in guitar while playing the song?
Is it possible in Audacity, to play a song, while recording my guitar, which is a direct line in? I'd rather not worry about chopping and putting to files together, and hoping they are in sync. For example, can I play a song, and have it record the guitar part I am playing, while the song is playing in Audacity.
Thanks!|||You most definitely can. Just import the song and then hit record. The song will play and you can play over the song. You can even adjust the settings to have your lead higher in volume than the other song and you can switch the left and right positioning of each track. Audacity is pretty slick and I can't beleive it's free.
Happy playing.
Let me know if you need help with it. I'm just now getting used to it and seeing what it can do.|||From my personal experience with audacity, I would say that yes it's possible. I haven't tried exactly what you said, but something very similar. I'm pretty sure that just by spending time fiddling with it you could get it to work. Good luck!

How do I import a video to make it sound squeaky??????????|||I don't believe Audacity supports video files as it is an audio editor.
If you can extract the audio (Google some free software or just record it playing) you can mess with the pitch and then try using Movie Maker (or something similar) to add it back into the video.

Audacity??
Hi. Do you know how to record songs that are playing on your computer using Audacity? thanks.|||yes. your sound card must have "stereo mix" as an option for input though. basically just open audacity, then you'll see a drop down box that either says "microphone in" or "line in", if possible change it to stereo mix. if you don't have that option then no you can't do it using audacity. if you do, the next step would be to goto edit%26gt;preferences%26gt;click the audio I/O tab, change the channels to say 2 (stereo) under the recording section. now when you hit record, it will record in stereo. from here simply click record, then press play on the song you want, whatever is playing through the speakers will be recorded, you may want to do a few test runs to make sure the volume is loud enough, you want the waves to go as close to the tops and bottoms of the tracks as possible WITHOUT touching them, if you make it too loud, then it will sound "fuzzy" like it is being played through a megaphone. when you are done, you can delete the extra sections. then goto file, export as wav or as mp3. if you want it to be an mp3, you first have to have the Lame 3.96.1 encoder. http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~raa110/auda鈥?/a>
once you've saved it to your computer and extracted the zip file, open audacity, goto edit%26gt;preferences%26gt;fileformats tabs%26gt;click on find library and navigate to the folder where you have the lame encoder. once linked to it, the dropdown box should be enabled allowing you to set the mp3 quality. 320 being the best and 16 being the worst. i'd probably stick with 128, it is good quality and saves on space. now you can export as mp3. if you have any other questions about audacity or recording music, let me know. i've used audacity for over 5 years since build 1.0.

Audacity??????
Every time I try to import an audio file on to Audacity, it says . for example "Bubbly is a Windows Media Audio File. Audacity cannot open this type of file due to patent restrictions. You'll have to find a converter somewhere on the Internet, and convert your WMA files to mp3 or some other format that can be used with Audacity.
